Summary

This collection consists of autographs of various famous and/or prominent individuals in the field of politics, entertainment, and the military. Most autographs represented in the collection are of late 20th century persons, dating from the 1960s to the 1990s. Additional material consists of over 100 pieces of sheet music of popular songs dating from 1885-1923; miscellaneous newspapers and periodicals from the nineteenth century and theater playbills dating from ca. 1920 to 2007.

Collection: Arranged into five series: Autographs (arranged into sub-series according to the occupation or claim to fame of the autographer); Sheet music (arranged alpabetically by title); Newspapers and periodicals (arranged by title); theatre playbills (arranged chronologically.)

Ownership and Custodial History

All materials in this collection were donated to the Archives and Special Collections by Gloria and Warren Leventhal (F & M Class of 1953) from 2002 - present. Many ofthe autographs were acquired by the Leventhals from the collection of William Haupt of Long Island, NY. Most of the sheet music once belonged to Ella Pate of Brooklyn, NY. In 2007, the collection was renamed the Paul Leventhal Memorial Archive, Gloria and Warren Leventhal Collection in memory of Paul Leventhal (1938-2007), a 1959 graduate of Franklin and Marshall.
